Why Every Workplace Should Have an AED

Why AED access, visible placement, routine checks, and employee awareness belong in an emergency plan.

An AED can analyze a heart rhythm and, when appropriate, deliver a shock. The device gives step-by-step prompts, but planning and practice save time.

Preparedness is more than owning a device

Workplaces should know where AEDs are located, keep them accessible, follow the manufacturer’s inspection schedule, and include them in emergency-response planning.

  • Place AEDs where they are visible and quickly accessible.
  • Check pads, batteries, and status indicators as directed by the manufacturer.
  • Train employees in CPR and AED use.
  • Call emergency services for every suspected cardiac arrest.

Practice the response

Scenario-based training helps teams coordinate calling 911, starting CPR, retrieving the AED, and meeting responders.
